Limits on your device depend on its memory. Larger files may still work; the tool warns you first.
How it works
- 01 Choose a short PDF, ideally one or two pages.
- 02 Keep the 200 KB target.
- 03 Check the predicted quality; use Grayscale images for black-and-white scans.
- 04 Compress and download.
About this tool
Two hundred kilobytes is the smallest limit you are likely to meet: exam registration and recruitment portals, some visa forms and document upload fields in banking apps ask for files this small. At 200 KB (200,000 bytes) a PDF can hold a page or two of scanned paper at a modest but readable resolution. Hushdesk measures your document first and shows whether the target is reachable and at what quality. For longer files it points to what helps, such as removing pages or turning scanned pages into compact images. Processing is local; nothing is uploaded.
-
Made for one-pagers
Certificates, receipts, application forms and ID copies are the documents that fit 200 KB without turning into a blur.
-
Warns before it degrades
When a file is too long or too detailed for 200 KB, you get the smallest reachable size and a suggestion instead of an unreadable result.
-
Pages as images for scans
Scanned pages without a text layer often shrink further as flat images; this mode asks for your confirmation because selectable text is removed.
Questions and answers
How do I make a PDF smaller than 200 KB?
Keep this page’s 200 KB target and drop the file. If the estimate says the size is reachable, compress and you are done. If not, drop unneeded pages with Remove PDF pages or switch colour scans to grayscale, then try again.
Is 200 KB enough for a readable scan?
For one page, yes: around 100–150 dpi in grayscale reads well on screen. With three or more pages, text in the scans gets soft; send fewer pages or ask the recipient whether a larger file is allowed.
What is the difference between 200 KB and 0.2 MB?
None here: the target field takes megabytes, so 0.2 MB is exactly 200 KB, that is 200,000 bytes, which also passes forms that count a kilobyte as 1,024 bytes.
Why does a phone photo of a document not fit into 200 KB?
Phone photos carry millions of pixels and colour noise. The engine can downsample them a lot, but a legible page has a floor. Crop the photo to the sheet first, or shrink the picture itself with Compress image to 200 KB.
