Limits on your device depend on its memory. Larger files may still work; the tool warns you first.
How it works
- 01 Choose the large PDF.
- 02 Keep the 10 MB target selected.
- 03 Check that the estimate says high or very high quality.
- 04 Compress and download the lighter copy.
About this tool
Ten megabytes is a generous budget, and that is exactly why it suits the heaviest documents: annual reports full of photos, design portfolios, drawings with embedded images or long colour scans. Court and tender e-filing systems, grant portals and many cloud forms cap single files at 10 MB. With this target Hushdesk usually only trims image resolution a little, so pictures stay close to the original. Before anything runs, the estimate shows the expected size and quality level. Compression happens on your device, and the document is not uploaded.
-
Almost no visible loss
Going from 30–60 MB down to 10 MB mostly removes image detail that neither a screen nor an office printer can show.
-
Handles heavy files
On a computer the engine takes files of up to 250 MB and works on several processor cores; a large report takes from a few seconds to a few minutes.
-
Same document, just lighter
Bookmarks, links, form fields and the text layer are kept; only the embedded pictures are re-encoded.
Questions and answers
When is 10 MB the right target instead of 5 MB?
Pick 10 MB when the limit allows it and the images matter: photo-heavy reports, portfolios or plans. Smaller targets force a lower image resolution, while at 10 MB most documents keep their photos close to the original.
Is this the same as compressing for email?
The target is the same, the purpose is not. The email page explains attachment limits and why a 10 MB file grows when it is sent; this page is for portals that state a 10 MB upload limit.
My PDF is 200 MB. Can it get down to 10 MB?
Often yes, when the size comes from photos or scans. Very long scans may also need the Pages as images mode. Phones have a lower device limit of 80 MB, so compress the biggest files on a computer.
Will the text in my report stay searchable?
Yes. Only images are resampled and re-encoded; fonts, text and vector graphics are copied as they are, so search, copy and screen readers keep working.
