About this tool
Writers, engineers and students draft in Markdown, but reviewers, editors and clients usually ask for a .docx they can comment on. Instead of installing Pandoc, drop the .md file here. Hushdesk maps every element to a proper Word style: hash-mark headings become Heading 1–6 (so the navigation pane and an automatic table of contents work), lists become real numbered and bulleted lists, pipe tables become Word tables with a shaded header row, and code keeps a monospaced Code Block style. The result opens in Microsoft Word, LibreOffice Writer and Google Docs. It also suits answers from AI chat assistants that you saved as Markdown.
-
Styles, not formatting
Headings, quotes, inline code and code blocks use named styles, so changing the look of the whole document takes one click in Word.
-
Lists that renumber
Ordered lists keep their start number and nesting up to nine levels; task-list items get ☐ and ☒ boxes.
-
Tables with alignment
GFM column alignment is carried into the Word cells, and the header row repeats on every page of a long table.
-
Cyrillic-safe fonts
Each run sets the Latin, complex-script and East Asian font slots, so Russian or Ukrainian text never drops into an unexpected fallback face.
Questions and answers
Is this a Pandoc alternative for Markdown to Word?
For everyday documents, yes: headings, emphasis, lists, tables, links, quotes and code come out as clean Word styles without installing anything. Pandoc still wins for citations, maths and custom reference templates.
Will Word’s table of contents work with the converted headings?
Yes. Markdown headings are mapped to the built-in Heading 1 to Heading 6 styles, so References → Table of Contents in Word, and the navigation pane, pick them up immediately.
Which fonts does the DOCX use?
Arial or Times New Roman for text and Courier New for code. Fonts are not embedded in the file; these three are present on Windows, macOS and in LibreOffice, so the document looks the same for the recipient.
What happens to images and HTML inside the Markdown?
Pictures embedded in the file as PNG or JPEG data are inserted and scaled to the page width. Images linked by path or URL become their alt text, and raw HTML tags are reduced to plain text.
Can I turn the Word document back into Markdown later?
Yes, with the DOCX to Markdown converter on this site. Because the styles are named consistently, headings, lists, code and quotes survive the round trip.
