About this tool
Need the words from a photo of a document, a screenshot or a scanned page? Add one or several images and Hushdesk reads them with Tesseract OCR directly in your browser. The recognized Russian and English text appears in a box you can copy from, and you can also download it as a plain TXT file. Each image gets a confidence score, and images that are hard to read are named, so you know what to double-check. Recognition on your device is in beta: expect a few seconds per image on a computer and longer on a phone. Sharp, well-lit, straight pictures give the best results.
-
Several images at once
Up to 20 images per run. Multi-page TIFF faxes are read page by page and the text is joined in order.
-
Confidence you can see
The average confidence is shown with the result, and weak images are listed separately.
-
Works with phone photos
The EXIF rotation of a photo is applied before reading, and specks are cleaned up automatically.
What does the confidence score mean?
Tesseract rates every word it reads from 0 to 100. We show the average per image; below 75 the text usually contains mistakes that are worth checking by eye.
Questions and answers
Which image formats can I convert to text?
JPG, PNG, WebP, TIFF (including multi-page), BMP, GIF and AVIF. For PDF files use OCR PDF instead.
How do I get the best recognition from a photo?
Shoot the page straight from above in good light, fill the frame with the text and avoid shadows and glare. Letters smaller than about 10 pixels high are rarely read correctly.
Can image to text read handwriting?
Not reliably. The engine is trained on printed text: neat block letters sometimes work, cursive does not.
Is there a limit on image size?
Very large photos are scaled down before recognition to fit the memory of your device: 30 megapixels on computers, 16 on phones. That is still plenty for a document page.
Does the extracted text keep its formatting?
The result is plain text. Line breaks and paragraphs are kept; fonts, bold, tables and columns are not.
