About this tool
Cropping is the quickest way to improve a picture: remove a distracting edge, put the subject in the center, or give an image the shape a site demands. Draw a frame on the picture and adjust it with the mouse, a finger or the arrow keys, or choose a ratio such as 1:1 for avatars, 4:5 for portrait posts, 16:9 for banners or 35:45 for ID-style photos. Without a drawn frame, each image is cropped to the largest area of that ratio, kept at the center or at one edge, which is handy for a batch. Hushdesk crops on your device; nothing is uploaded.
-
Pixel-exact frame
The frame shows its size in pixels, and the crop follows it exactly.
-
Ratios for every platform
Square, 4:3, 3:2, 16:9 and their portrait versions, plus 4:5 for feeds and 35:45 for ID photos.
-
Works from the keyboard
Arrow keys move the frame and Shift with the arrows resizes it, so no mouse or touch is needed.
-
Lossless where possible
PNG and lossless WebP are cropped with the remaining pixels untouched; JPEG keeps its own quality level.
Crop or resize?
Cropping removes part of the picture and keeps the rest at full detail; resizing keeps the whole picture and changes how many pixels it has. To get a 1080 × 1080 post from a landscape photo, crop to 1:1 first, then resize the square to 1080 pixels.
Questions and answers
How do I crop a photo to a square?
Choose the 1:1 ratio. With several images, each one is cropped to the largest centered square; with a single image you can drag the square over the part you want.
Which ratio should I use for an ID or passport photo?
35:45 matches the common 35 × 45 mm photo. Check the exact rules of your authority: many also specify the head size, background and pixel dimensions, which you can set afterwards with Resize image.
Does cropping reduce image quality?
PNG and lossless WebP use lossless encoding. JPEG is encoded again and may lose detail; compare the result with the original.
Can I crop several images the same way?
Yes. Pick a ratio and which part to keep (center, top or left, bottom or right), and every image in the batch is cropped accordingly.
Are my cropped photos stored anywhere online?
No. Cropping happens in your browser, and the results exist only as downloads on your device.
