About this tool
Retyping a table from a PDF is slow and error-prone. Choose the file and get an Excel workbook in which every table found in the PDF has its own sheet, named after its page. Tables with ruled lines are read first; tables without borders are found by how their columns line up. Amounts such as 1 200,50 or 1,234.5 become real numbers you can add up and chart.
Finding tables needs our server: the PDF is converted there (France) with the open-source engines pdfplumber and Camelot, and the upload is scheduled for deletion as soon as the workbook is ready. Nothing is uploaded until you press the convert button.
-
One sheet per table
Every detected table lands on its own sheet with a name like p3-t1, so you always know which page it came from.
-
Numbers stay numbers
Thousands separators and decimal commas are understood, so amounts arrive as numeric cells. Codes with leading zeros stay text.
-
No formula surprises
Cells that start with an equals sign are stored as text, never as formulas, so a PDF cannot slip a formula into your workbook.
-
Cyrillic tables in order
Ruled tables are read cell by cell, which keeps Russian and other non-Latin text whole and in the right cells.
Which PDF tables convert best
- Digital PDFs exported from Excel, accounting or banking software: the text is exact and the columns are clear.
- Tables with ruled lines: borders tell the engine exactly where every cell starts and ends.
- Borderless tables work when the columns are well aligned; check merged or split columns.
- Scans need text recognition first.
Questions and answers
How do I extract a table from a PDF into Excel?
Choose the PDF and press the convert button. Every table found becomes a sheet of the XLSX file. If a page has no table, its lines of text go to a text sheet instead, so nothing is lost.
Can a table from a scanned PDF be converted to Excel?
Not directly: a scan is an image without text. Run OCR PDF first, then convert the recognized PDF. The result warns you when a file has no text layer.
Can I sum the numbers in the converted spreadsheet?
Yes. Values like 1 200, 1 200,50, 1,234.5 or -12 become numbers. Numbers longer than 15 digits and codes with leading zeros are kept as text, so they are not rounded or trimmed.
What happens to my PDF after the Excel conversion?
The upload is scheduled for deletion right after the workbook is built; the XLSX stays until the deletion time you chose or until you press Delete from server now. The file name never leaves your browser. Details: Privacy and security. Technical failures may delay deletion.
Why is a table split or merged in the workbook?
Tables without lines are found by how their columns line up, which can merge two neighbouring columns or split a wide one. Tables with visible borders give the best results, so check the sheets before relying on them.
Does PDF to Excel accept password-protected files?
The server cannot open an encrypted PDF. Remove the password on your device with Unlock PDF first (the file never leaves your browser there), then convert the unlocked copy.
