How it works
- 01 Choose a .csv file exported from your bank, shop, CRM or database.
- 02 Keep Excel (XLSX) as the target; separator and encoding are detected automatically.
- 03 Press Convert.
- 04 Download the .xlsx and open it: columns, letters and numbers are already in place.
About this tool
CSV is how banks, online shops, analytics dashboards and accounting systems hand over data, and it is also why so many spreadsheets arrive broken: a single column, question marks instead of letters, or numbers Excel refuses to add up. Hushdesk reads the file the careful way. It recognises UTF-8, UTF-16 and older Windows code pages, finds the separator (comma, semicolon, tab or vertical bar) by checking which one splits the rows evenly, and respects quoted fields with line breaks inside. Clear numbers become real numeric cells while IDs with leading zeros stay text, and every column gets a width that fits its content. The XLSX opens in Excel, LibreOffice Calc and Google Sheets.
-
Separator sniffing
Comma, semicolon, tab and vertical bar are tried on the first rows; the one that gives a consistent column count wins, quotes respected.
-
Numbers you can sum
Both 1,234.56 and 1 234,56 styles are recognised and keep their decimals; phone numbers, postcodes and 20-digit account numbers stay text.
-
Readable from the start
Columns are sized to their longest value, so dates do not show as ##### and long names are not clipped.
-
Formula-safe
Cells that look like formulas, such as =SUM(A1:A9) or +A1, are stored as plain text, so a hostile CSV cannot plant a live formula in your workbook.
Questions and answers
Why does my CSV open in a single column in Excel?
Excel splits CSV files with the list separator of your system settings, often a comma in the US and a semicolon in Europe. When the file uses the other one, everything lands in column A. Converting to XLSX removes the guesswork, because the columns are stored explicitly.
Will Cyrillic, accented or other non-English text survive?
Yes. UTF-8 is checked first, and files from older Windows programs in Windows-1251, KOI8-R or Windows-1252 are recognised by their byte patterns. If a rare file is still misread, set the encoding under More options.
Are leading zeros and long numbers kept?
Yes. Values such as 007, 0123 or 40817810099910004312 are stored as text, so Excel neither drops the zeros nor turns long digits into 4.08E+19. Only unambiguous numbers are converted.
How large can the CSV file be?
Up to the size shown in the formats table on this page and Excel’s own limit of 1,048,576 rows per sheet. A 10 MB export usually converts in a few seconds.
Does the CSV file leave my computer?
No. It is parsed and turned into a workbook inside an isolated frame of this page that has no network access. Close the tab and nothing remains.
