Limits on your device depend on its memory. Larger files may still work; the tool warns you first.
How it works
- 01 Select the PDF to reduce.
- 02 Leave the 1 MB target, or enter a custom size such as 0.5 MB.
- 03 Look at the predicted quality, and accept the smallest size if 1 MB is too tight.
- 04 Compress and save the result.
About this tool
One megabyte is a tight budget, typical for government e-services, school platforms and older mail gateways. This page starts with a 1 MB target. Hushdesk predicts before you begin whether your file can get that small and at what quality: text-heavy PDFs usually fit easily, while scans of many pages may need a lower image resolution. If 1 MB is out of reach, you see the smallest possible size instead of receiving a ruined document. You can also type 500, 200 or even 100 KB. Everything is processed locally and nothing is uploaded.
-
Know before you wait
Within seconds the estimate tells you whether 1 MB is realistic and how much image detail it will cost.
-
Down to 100 KB
Custom targets go as low as 100 KB, handy for strict forms that accept 200 KB at most.
-
A second option for scans
When a scanned document is too heavy, the Pages as images mode flattens every page into a compact picture, with your consent, because the text layer is lost.
Questions and answers
Can any PDF be compressed to 1 MB?
Not always. Hundreds of scanned pages or large posters hold more detail than 1 MB can carry at a readable resolution. The estimate shows the smallest reachable size before you start, so you never wait for a result that cannot fit.
How do I get a PDF under 200 KB or 100 KB?
Choose Custom and type the size in megabytes, for example 0.2 for 200 KB. This works best for short documents with one or two images; long scans usually need the Pages as images mode as well.
What quality should I expect at 1 MB?
For a few pages with photos, images end up at roughly 100–150 dpi, which looks fine on screen and prints acceptably. The estimate line names the level (high, medium or low) before you compress.
Why did the result stay above 1 MB?
Some content cannot be recompressed on the device: JPEG 2000, JBIG2 or CMYK images, embedded fonts and long text streams. We then apply balanced settings, report the smallest size reached and can offer strong compression on our server (France) if you agree to upload.
