Limits on your device depend on its memory. Larger files may still work; the tool warns you first.

How it works

  1. 01 Choose or drop JPG, PNG or WebP photos.
  2. 02 Keep “All metadata”, or choose “Location only” to keep the camera details and dates.
  3. 03 Press Remove metadata.
  4. 04 Check what was removed and download the clean files.

About this tool

Every photo from a phone or camera carries a hidden record: where it was taken, on which device, when, and often a small preview of the uncropped original. Hushdesk removes this metadata byte by byte. EXIF, XMP and IPTC blocks, comments and embedded extra images are cut out, while the compressed picture data is copied as it is, so the image is not re-saved and loses no quality. The orientation and the color profile stay, so the photo still looks right. After cleaning you see what was found and removed. It all happens locally in your browser.

  • No re-encoding

Only metadata blocks are cut out, so the decoded pixels are identical to the original, bit for bit.

  • Hidden previews too

The small preview stored inside EXIF, which can show the picture as it was before cropping, goes along with the rest.

  • A clear report

See whether a GPS location, camera details and dates were in the file, and what happened to each of them.

  • Still upright

The orientation is kept, so a portrait photo does not suddenly show up lying on its side.

What is removed and what stays

  • Removed: GPS location, camera make and model, dates, editing software, exposure and lens details, serial numbers, the EXIF thumbnail, XMP and IPTC blocks, comments, PNG text notes and extra images appended to a JPEG.
  • Kept: the picture itself, its orientation and its color profile.

Questions and answers

What information does EXIF data contain?

Typically the GPS coordinates, the date and time, the camera or phone model, lens and exposure settings, the editing software and a preview thumbnail. Some cameras also record a serial number.

Does removing EXIF reduce the image quality?

No. Hushdesk does not decode and re-save the picture; it only cuts out the metadata blocks, so every pixel stays exactly the same.

Can I remove metadata from HEIC photos?

Not directly: in HEIC the metadata is woven into the container. Convert the photo to JPEG first, which does not carry the metadata over, or set the iPhone camera format to Most Compatible so new photos are saved as JPEG.

Do social networks remove EXIF automatically?

Check the exported file before sharing. Removing supported metadata does not remove identifying details visible in the image or guarantee anonymity.

Why is the orientation tag kept?

Many photos are stored sideways and rely on that tag to be displayed upright. Removing it would make them appear rotated, and the tag says nothing about you.

Is my photo uploaded to read its metadata?

No. Reading and removing the metadata both happen in your browser, in a frame that is not allowed to use the network.
