About this tool
A Word file can look different on every computer: a missing font or another version of Word moves lines and pages. A PDF freezes the layout, so the document reads and prints the same everywhere.
This converter opens your DOCX or DOC with LibreOffice on our server (France), keeps headings, tables, lists, images, headers and footers, and returns a PDF you can send or print. Choose the file first: nothing is uploaded until you press the convert button. The uploaded document is scheduled for deletion as soon as the conversion finishes, and the PDF is scheduled for cleanup 60 minutes after job creation, or earlier if you ask.
-
Layout stays put
Page breaks, margins, columns, tables, footnotes, headers and footers are laid out by LibreOffice, a mature open-source office suite with deep DOCX support.
-
Fonts handled with care
Fonts embedded in the document are used. Common Microsoft fonts are replaced by metric-compatible ones, so line breaks match the original.
-
Nothing in the file is executed
Macros never run and linked content is never refreshed. Each document is converted in its own sealed container that has no network access.
Questions and answers
Does Word to PDF keep my fonts?
Fonts embedded in the DOCX are used as they are. Otherwise standard fonts are mapped to free metric-compatible twins: Calibri to Carlito, Cambria to Caladea, Arial to Liberation Sans, Times New Roman to Liberation Serif. Lines and pages usually break exactly as in Word; rare decorative fonts may look different.
Is my Word document stored on your server?
The upload is scheduled for deletion right after the conversion. The PDF is kept until the deletion time you chose, and Delete from server now requests its deletion. The file name never leaves your browser. See Privacy and security for the details. Technical failures may delay deletion.
Can I convert a password-protected DOCX?
No. An encrypted Word file cannot be opened without its password, so the upload is refused with a clear message. Remove the protection in Word (File, Info, Protect Document), save, and convert the copy.
Do hyperlinks still work in the PDF?
Links to web pages stay clickable in the resulting PDF. The converter itself never opens them and never refreshes linked content, so the PDF shows exactly what was saved in the document.
How large can the Word file be?
Up to 50 MB and 500 pages per document. Typical letters and reports take a few seconds; long manuals full of photos need a little longer.
Can I get a PDF/A file for an archive?
Yes. Open More options and switch on PDF/A for archiving. The result is PDF/A-2b with every font embedded, the variant archives and many e-filing portals ask for.
