Limits on your device depend on its memory. Larger files may still work; the tool warns you first.
How it works
- 01 Choose or drop the photo or scan.
- 02 Check that the target says 100 KB, or type another limit.
- 03 Press Compress; the tool searches for the best quality under the limit.
- 04 Download the file and attach it to the form.
About this tool
Online applications, job portals and exam registrations often accept photos and scans of 100 KB at most, while a phone camera produces files thirty times bigger. This page comes preset to a 100 KB target. Hushdesk tries quality levels one after another and keeps the best result that stays under the limit, typically within five to seven attempts. If quality alone is not enough, it also trims the pixel dimensions a little and tells you the new size. The photo is processed on your device and never uploaded, which matters for ID photos and passport scans.
-
Never over the limit
The result never exceeds the target: 100 KB here means 100,000 bytes, which also passes forms that count 1 KB as 1,024 bytes.
-
Quality first, pixels second
Dimensions are reduced only when even the lowest sensible quality does not fit, and then just enough.
-
Scans and ID photos
Scanned pages and photographed documents shrink the same way, without being sent anywhere.
Tips for a sharp picture at 100 KB
- Crop to the face or the document first: fewer pixels leave more bytes for detail.
- Prefer a photo taken in good light; noise from dark shots eats up the budget.
- Keep JPEG for photos. A screenshot of text may look cleaner as PNG, but only if it is small.
Questions and answers
How can a 3 MB photo fit into 100 KB?
By lowering the JPEG quality and, if needed, the pixel dimensions. A photo around 1,000–1,200 pixels wide at medium quality often fits; a 4,000-pixel original rarely does, so it is scaled down.
Why is the result a bit smaller than 100 KB instead of exactly 100 KB?
The search stops once it lands a few percent under the target, typically at 97–99% of it. It never goes over, because forms reject a file that is even one byte too large.
The form asks for 100 KB and specific dimensions. What should I do?
Set the dimensions first with Resize image or Crop image, then bring the result here to compress it.
What if the tool cannot get under 100 KB?
It returns the smallest version it managed and shows its size. That happens with huge or very noisy pictures; cropping away unneeded areas first usually solves it.
Is it safe to shrink ID photos and passport scans here?
Yes. They are compressed inside your browser, in a frame that cannot reach the network, so the documents never leave your computer or phone.
