About this tool
PNG is the format of screenshots, charts, diagrams and exported slides: images where crisp text and thin lines matter. Turning them into a PDF makes them easy to attach to a support ticket, hand in as coursework or print as one document.
This converter keeps PNG images lossless inside the PDF. The pixels are stored with Flate compression, the same family of compression PNG itself uses, so no JPEG blur creeps into small type. Transparent areas sit on the white page, black-and-white images are stored as compact 1-bit graphics and grayscale ones as gray, which keeps the PDF small. Hushdesk does all of this in your browser, so internal screenshots stay on your computer.
-
Pixel-exact pages
PNG images are embedded losslessly, so text in screenshots stays razor sharp at any zoom level.
-
Compact for documents
Pure black-and-white images are stored at 1 bit per pixel and grayscale images as gray instead of full colour.
-
Transparency handled
Transparent PNGs sit on the white page, exactly as they look in most image viewers.
-
True size option
With Same as image, a PNG that carries 300 dpi resolution becomes a page of the matching paper size.
Questions and answers
Are PNG images compressed when converted to PDF?
Losslessly, yes: the PDF uses Flate compression, like PNG. No detail is lost and no JPEG artefacts are introduced.
Why is my PDF larger than the PNG files?
PNG applies per-row filters before compressing, while the PDF stores the plain pixels compressed, so photographic PNGs can grow a little. Screenshots and diagrams usually stay about the same size, or shrink when they are gray or black and white.
What happens to the transparent parts of a PNG?
They show the white page underneath. The result looks the same as the PNG on a white background.
Can I mix PNG and JPG in the same PDF?
Yes, add both: JPG photos are embedded unchanged and PNG images losslessly. Image to PDF explains how every supported format is handled.
